About the Founder

AbledLinks is a centralized site where parents and caregivers of children with special needs can find helpful resources, products and encouragement. As a mother of a mentally challenged daughter, I know the challenges that are faced in everyday activities - finding a dentist, a trip to the hair salon, dining out, as well as the limited choices for extra-curricular activities.

My "Adventures in Holland" began on March 20, 1986, ten days after my daughter Lydia celebrated her first birthday.  It was then that she spiked a high fever and went into a prolonged febrile seizure from which permanent brain damage occurred.  Lydia is now 27 yrs. old and functions on the level of a 3-4 yr. old. I have had to learn a whole new language and have met many precious people along my journey.  I have enjoyed some breathtaking scenery, but it has also been a long, many times difficult, road with many questions as to her future still ahead.

Twenty-seven years ago there were only a handful of helpful resources available, and it has only been by word of mouth or by accident that I've learned of others over the years.  It is with great passion that this site has been created and it is my desire to help make others journey just a little easier.

Many hours have been spent compiling the links and resources and they will be closely monitored and updated, so visit us regularly. We hope you will find it helpful and inspiring!

If you have an idea for a product, please feel free to drop me a line.
